General Dentistry

Gone are the times of “divided” medicine. More and more attention is being paid to how everything in the body is linked. For many years, medicine tried to “specialize” things to the detriment of the patient. We are now in an era of co-treatment and co-diagnosis. Many things that go on in other parts of the body will manifest themselves in the mouth and vice-versa.

It is important to try to take the best possible care of your entire body.

  • See physician regularly.
  • Seeing your dentist regularly.
  • Get enough sleep.
  • Get enough activity.
  • Reduce unnecessary environmental exposures.
  • Maintaining a proper diet.

Good nutrition is something that needs to begin at as young an age as possible. Do not be the parent that says “my child won’t like that”. Studies have shown it can take up to ten times of a child trying something before they will develop a taste for it. If you are an adult who has a long list of dislikes, try them again. Experiment with a variety of cooking techniques for vegetables. Maybe you don’t like something steamed, but roasted may be a whole new ballgame! The possibilities are endless.

It is important to have as much variety in your diet as possible! Variety leads to you getting more vitamins and minerals from natural sources. Avoid highly processed foods. Take time to think about how our ancestors ate. The closer it is to nature, the better off you are. There are many forms of protein available. Be creative there as well, so that you limit your intake of protein through red meat. This can be more acidic and cause an imbalance in your Ph, which ideally should be alkaline. We are blessed to live in an area that is rich in seasonal Farmer’s Markets. This is an amazing way to support local business and find amazing fruits and veggies. Take the time to learn what is in season at the time. You can do a lot of experimenting and keep your food bill lower by buying in season.

When you see your physician, be truthful with them. Make sure to have your skin checked yearly. Ask questions and be persistent. If something does not seem right, don’t give up until you have an answer. Only you know your body that well, don’t ignore it!
