You have, no doubt, heard the recommendations from the American Pediatric Association stating that your baby should be seen by a physician or dentist by their first birthday to have their teeth and mouth checked. We are so thrilled that the APA is bringing the importance of early tooth development to the forefront.
In these early years, your Federal Way infant dental care pediatrician should be checking their teeth and mouth at each visit. Unless they notice a problem or your baby sustains a fall or bump, those checks should be sufficient.
The Do’s and Don’ts for building a good dental foundation for your child:
- Clean your babies gums with a moist washcloth.
- Once teeth come in, use a small baby toothbrush.
- Do not use fluoridated toothpaste until your child is able to spit it out.
- There are toothpastes specifically for infants available over the counter.
- Do not let your child fall asleep with a bottle.
- When they begin eating solid foods, keep things as natural as possible.
- Do clean your child’s teeth after they consume high carb snacks.
Your toddler’s first full visit with us will be between the ages of two and three.
Our commitment to your family is that we will:
- Instill a sense of trust and comfort in your child.
- Provide your family the highest level of preventive care.
- Provide your family the tools and education to maintain optimum oral health.
- Be your child’s advocate so they have nothing but the best, most enjoyable dental experiences.
Before your child’s first visit:
- Please do not project any past, negative experiences on them. Let them form their own opinion.
- We recommend showing them pictures of our “kid’s play room”. (See Children’s Dentistry)
- Read books about visits to the dentist.
Our firm belief is there is NO reason for a child not to LOVE the dentist! We are thrilled when we are able to be a part of a child’s dental care through our infant dental care in Federal Way and to make a difference in their development.
